Unit Plans

During my Certification Practicum, I developed and implemented unit plans that integrated the arts, social-emotional learning (SEL), and Indigenous content. These unit plans provided a rich and engaging learning experience for students, as they were able to explore and connect with multiple subjects through a variety of creative and reflective activities.

Arts integration involves using the arts to teach and reinforce learning in other subject areas. By incorporating music, visual arts, drama, and dance into unit plans, I was able to create a dynamic and multisensory learning environment that engaged students’ creativity and imagination.

In addition to arts integration, I also focused on incorporating social-emotional learning into lessons and activities. This involves teaching students how to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Through this students developed important life skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

Finally, I also included Indigenous content. This involved incorporating teachings, stories, and traditions from Indigenous cultures, (particularly Secwepemc peoples), into each Unit. By doing so, students developed a deeper appreciation and understanding of Indigenous cultures and also contributed to the important work of decolonizing education and promoting cultural awareness and respect.
